SCENES OF LOCKDOWN

An online exhibition by James Bacon and Jules Carr

Even under normal circumstances, photographers James Bacon and Jules Carr - based in Sheffield and Reigate respectively - are both strongly drawn to capturing urban spaces, chasing beguiling city light, and seeking the extraordinary amongst the mundane.

Given the unprecedented circumstances of Lockdown 2020, it felt to them to be not just an opportunity but a duty to document the radical transformation of their environs.

Nearly-deserted evening streets echo with strange memories.  With the air now clear, and the familiar transformed into a surreal urban landscape, the surroundings are haunted by the ghosts of a suspended life.

Amidst the suspense a narrative develops for both photographers; this in turn is reflected in their choice of subject, framing and light.  New stories are to be told, many of them poignant, with the shop shutters down, the pubs closed, and the lights out.

Caught between the loss and the uncertainty, there is Still Life.

All images are available as premium edition, hand numbered prints. Purchasers will enjoy a unique item, hand signed, and printed to archival quality Hahnemühle Photo Rag 310gsm fine art paper to the highest possible standards.
